It was third time lucky for the match against Cleckheaton, after being called off, rearranged, called off again and rearranged again, we finally played. In the snow. Yes, it was SNOWING!

We had a strong team of 15 and were confident that we could come away with the win, especially if we played like we’d played against Bradford the day before.

We started well, getting lots of attack and playing for long periods in the Cleckheaton half. They had the occasional break, but we really dominated the attack and it seemed a goal would be inevitable, if we could just get the ball around Cleckheaton’s great back line.

Then, against the run of play, Cleckheaton got a short corner. A great slightly lifted shot from the corner got a deflection and before we knew it, we were 1-0 down.

It was ok though, we knew we could get it back, we were playing really well and got straight back on the attack.

We were still struggling to get the ball through the Cleckheaton defence, shot after shot was stopped by the Cleckheaton centre back.

At halftime we were freezing, but pleased with the way we were playing. We knew we had to get this goal back, and really wanted several more besides.

The second half played out much the same as the first, we had attack after attack. The first 10 minutes were spent pretty much entirely in the Cleckheaton half winning longer corners and marking so well that Cleckheaton couldn’t get the ball through. The goal had to come eventually.

Cleckheaton did make some breaks in the second half, they had some key players in midfield that could drive the ball through, and we fced a couple of short corners, but we made some great breaks.

In the last few minutes, we pushed more players up the field to attack harder and get the ball through, but it wasn’t to be. We never got the goal back.

The game ended 1-0. I don’t think we named a MOM, mainly because everyone was freezing and ran off home as quickly as possible.
