I’m a bit behind with the match reports. Obviously got out of practice over the summer, so this is a double whammy - followed by last Saturday’s report.
So, I didn’t play when we played Pickering at home, no one took on the match report writing mantle, so here’s what I know: We struggled to get a team, even though it was a home game - so I thought I was safe to go on holiday. We ended up with 12, but Tina got injured in the first 5 minutes, so then we played with a bare 11. We lost 4-2 and Gail scored both goals, Emily got MOM. Sounds like we played well in the face of adversity against a strong team.
Fast forward to the following week, we had York 5 away, long journeys never bode well for getting a team and again we found ourselves with a bare 11. We met on the pitchside with low expectations. Having queued through races traffic and all the marathon road closures in York, bad bad timing.
As the game started we could see that we were going to be strong, we were moving the ball well around the pitch, taking advantage of the space and making some really strong attacks. However, for some reason, everyone on the pitch forgot how to shoot. I’m not really sure what happened, but we all proved how good we are at dribbling the ball in the D.
After 20 minutes, we could have been about 5-0 up, but we weren’t, and then, finally we got our first GOAL of the game. Once we’d got one goal, we started to really get on our game! I’m not going to try and describe the whole game, it’s too long ago.

Hilary was having a stormer on the right wing, always ready for the ball. The midfield was in plenty of space and doing some great work feeding the ball through to the forward line. Gail, Vicky, Jo and Linda all got on the scoresheet! Our defence had did some great work closing down any York attacks, and Helen in goal was in the situation that we always want her to be in of worrying that her lack of action would mean she wasn’t focussed. Of course, this wasn’t the case and her brilliance shone a soon as we needed her.
York did start to close us down in the second half, but never really challenged our dominance of the game. It was a brilliant game and well played by everyone. The game ended 4-0 and Hilary got MOM for her great performance on the wing.
Next week: Leeds 4 at home.
