Batley Suffer Another Defeat at Leeds

Having struggled less this week to get a Team, last minute injuries still saw us with only 11 (I'm not going to mention how Vicky tripped over her own feet and broke her wrist). No subs is something that we've really struggled with so far this season. Compared to last season our results are terrible and this is primarily down to a lack of players every week.

We were playing Leeds at the horrible time of 4:30 on their fancy new water based pitch. Unfortunately, watering the new pitch meant that the games were all late on. The knock on effect of this was our game not actually starting until after 5.

In the first half Leeds rang rings round us. They were fast efficient and obviously train well together. We were playing a hugely defence ice game and had all 11 players back in our half. The few times we did manage to get the ball out of defence, there was no one up the pitch to pass to. We fought hard though and some great defending and goal keeping meant we didn't concede until well in to the half. The first goal came eventually though, and was a great shot from Leeds, there was nothing any of us could do.

The second goal for Leeds came quickly after the first. Within 5 minutes we were 2-0 down. Things were not looking good. We managed to pull ourselves together and push on to half time.

At half time we had time to talk through our marking and went back on the pitch in a positive mindset determined not to go down without a fight

We played much better in the second half, our marking was less irratic and Leeds didn't get through as easily. We even managed to have a couple of wrong attacks on the Leeds goal.

Leeds did manage to break and speed and go 3-0 up after 10 minutes, but this was to be their last goal. Our defending and Sarah's keeping meant that we didn't concede again.

The game ended 3-0, our stand in keeper, Sarah Hedley-Booth got MOM for a great game in goal.
