For the last home match of the season, Batley met together to play Huddersfield. After a couple of defeats recently, we were really ready for a win.
As we were warming up, Vicky came back from the captains meet with words that fill teams with both elation and fear at the same time "they've only got 10". Having an extra man can be both a blessing a curse. The other team might be a man down but they means they're all prepared to cover extra ground and will all be slightly out of position and difficult to mark. There's also the chance that our team could go in complacent, believing that we had an advantage.
Luckily, we were aware of this risk and determined to go out like Huddersfield had a full team, which is exactly what we did. Straight away we were on the attack, our forwards doing some great passing moves around the Huddersfield defence and looking dangerous from the off.
Now I'm not going to pretend I remember all the details of all the events that happened in the match, I’ll try my best! The first GOAL came from Jo, back in her usual left wing position, as she was perfectly placed for the cross in to the D. Batley were 1-0 up!
This was quickly followed up by Batley's second GOAL of also by Jo, 2-0 to Batley. Huddersfield were struggling to get their free hits through the Batley marking and the midfield and defence were shutting down and breaks with relative ease, always pushing the ball back in to the Huddersfield half.
The third GOAL of the game came from a short corner and there was some confusion as to who had actually hit it in to the net. In the end Vicky and Kim decided it was Vicky who had he last hit. Her second goal this season.
The fourth GOAL was Jo, her hat trick! Another great position had her ready for the cross coming from Sophie (maybe, she definitely set up a couple!!) 4-0 to Batley and it still wasn't half time!!

Jodi got her first GOAL of the match just before half time making it 5-0 to Batley and allowing Jodi to pull away from Kim in the race for top of the scoring leader board.
Just before half time there was some unpleasantness as a strong hit from Kim lifted off a Huddersfield defenders' stick and hit the Huddersfield player in the head. The match was stopped while the defender was looked after and left the pitch. My understanding is that she went to hospital and we all hope that she is ok.
Huddersfield were now down to 9 players and 5-0 down. Quickly after the game restarted it was half time.
When the second half started, it was clear that the game had shifted slightly. Huddersfield had made some switches and possibly some of the "extra man syndrome" had kicked in a little bit. The first part of the second half saw Batley defending relentlessly. A different player in Huddersfield midfield was putting them in some dangerous positions. We were struggling to get the ball through to our forwards to attack on goal once more.
We did get our breaks through though and Jodi capitalised with her second GOAL putting Batley 6-0 in the lead.
Huddersfield were still attacking though and now Janna was man marking the dangerous player, more attacks were breaking through. Batley faced a few more short corners and it was from one of these that Huddersfield got a goal back 6-1.

Batley weren't finished though, going back on the attack and Kim scoring our seventh and final GOAL of the game.
The game ended 7-1 to Batley, a great scoreline for our last home match, Jo got MOM for her hat trick. Next week we play Thirsk away.
