After another cancelled game last week, we were feeling out of practice before the start of our game against Driffield. After conceding to them in the first half of the season, we needed to make up for it this time.

Jodi was captain today because Vicky wasn't supposed to be playing. Although she couldn't stay away and didn't want to lose her spot at the top of the commit table!! Jodi was super organised, a pre-filled out match sheet and clipboard! She looked every bit the professional.

The game started and Batley were immediately on the back foot. Driffield took us by surprise and our stand in defenders kicking the ball in the D to give away a short corner, lead to Driffield scoring within 2 minutes. Batley were 1-0 down already. This didn't look good. Luckily, our forwards were on it, straight away pushing to get the equaliser. Some great work by Sophie, Kim and Jodi saw a fantastic GOAL by Sophie. 5 minutes in, it was 1-1!

The game settled a bit after this, but was quite even. The Driffield forwards were getting the ball early and coming at the defence from in their own half. The Batley forwards were doing some great work together and getting the ball up the pitch.

Some shambolic defending between Vicky and Newby lead to Driffield scoring a second goal putting batley 2-1 down.

Once again our forwards were not settling for being behind and replied with some great passing work allowing Sophie to score her second GOAL of the game. 2-2!!

Batley had found their feet now and we're pushing on the attack. It wasn't long before Jo capitalised on some great attacking in the D for Batley's third GOAL. The score was now 3-2 to Batley.

Something about the lemsips Sophie had taken before she played must have boyed her on to great goal scoring capabilities as she claimed the fourth GOAL, and her hat trick, before half time.

At half time the score was 4-2 to Batley, but we were by no means safe. This game could go either way.

The second half started and Driffield looked like they had a plan. They were organised and definitely not tired like we were. Batley were conceding short corner after short corner and Vicky was getting really stressed out! Some great marking kept most of these out. There was even one where Vicky kept her stick on the floor and actually got the ball!! I know you don't believe me, but really, it happened! Unfortunately, it was some poor defending from the rest of us that let in Driffield's third goal with 20 minutes still to play.

The last 20 minutes were a blur of Driffield short corners and unsuccessful Batley breaks. Some great work from the Batley midfield was always scuppered by the keen Driffield defence. Janna did some great work being all over the place.

Batley were able to keep Driffield at bay and the game ended 4-3.

Sophie got man of the match for her cracking hat trick of goals (although if she'd been less good it might have been me this week. Not that I'm bitter!) Dick of the Day was Vicky for forgetting to bring the DOTD prize.

Next week we have Barnsley away, they’ll will be after revenge for our last minute winner the other week!

Our match this week was followed by a night out to watch Helen and her band play in Brighouse. A fab time was had by all who attended, Helen and her band we're great!
