Our second match of the weekend was at home against Barnsley. This being a Sunday meant that we could welcome back Rach.
Barnsley were 2nd in the league. Higher than York, so this was going to be a tough game. We were tired, having played yesterday and Hilary had decided to run 10 miles that morning. I know, mental.
We started strong attacking Barnsley with some great passing and moving through midfield and to the forwards. Jodi and Rach had the Barnsley defence rattled doing some great dribbling into their D. If they'd only pass to each other they'd be unstoppable!!
Barnsley were equally strong, two in particular were getting free time after time. We really needed to tighten up the marking to stop them getting through.
Half time came and the score was still 0-0. We were equal and both pushing hard for the first goal of the game. Batley went back with the intention of marking well and getting the ball through the mids.
Marking was great in the second half, plenty of talking on the pitch meant Barnsley had no where to turn. This didn't stop them making some good breaks though and one particular goal attempt seemed to be a cert if it wasn't for Helens super human goal keeping skills keeping a clean sheet.
The attacking from both teams was relentless throughout, the game really was end to end, it seemed liked both teams would walk away with 1 point. Until batley won a short corner late into the second half. A beautiful straight hit from Jodi led to a fabulous GOAL! 1-0 to Batley.

All we had to do now was defend and keep Barnsley at bay. Barnsley hit out, and the final whistle blew. Jodi had scored our winner with 10 seconds to go. The batley hero! (She told me to write that).
Next week, Bradford.
