Baltey lost, but not as badly as last time!

This weekend, Batley prepared for two matches.
The first was against York, our defeat by them in September was still fresh in our minds as we arrived on Saturday morning. If you don't remember it, the report is here (the one when Vicky stood on the ball!!)
With this in mind, we were keen to put on a stronger performance than last time. We were struggling for defenders, as lots of our regular defenders are struggling with injuries at the moment. We have welcomed a new defender into our midst this week too. Claire has played for us for the first time and it is great to meet you!
The game started well, York were fast and keen, always first to the ball and less willing to give up it seemed than we were. It took a while to get to grips with the team and York went 1-0 ahead while we were still getting to grips with the game.
As we settled in, the game got more even and Batley started to make attacks of our own. Some great balls through the midfield and some fantastic crosses by Sophie were so unlucky not to reach the back of the net. We were behind but we could have been level had we just got lucky in the D.
At half time, it was 1-0 to York, Batley had it all to play for. We went out with a plan for the faster players and a renewed desire to take something from this match.
Unfortunately York had other ideas. Batley faced several more short corners before York finally broke down the defence and the score was 2-0.
Batley played well throughout, we were strong and keen and quick to make an attack. We were unlucky not to capitalise on our scoring opportunities and we're definitely better than last time we played York.
The final score was 2-0 to York, a much better result than earlier n the season. Man of the match was shared between Emily and Claire who both put in fantastic performances in defence. We also had our first Dick of the Day which went to Danni for her comedy of errors throwing her stick across the D and attempting to catch the ball when it was heading for the Net!
