This week, Batley were to take on top of the league, unbeaten, Thirsk. Not only are Thirsk unbeaten, they’re steam rolling everyone. With 8-0 and 9-0 wins under their belts. Batley met on the sideline hoping to keep Thirsk at bay and try to get the most we could out of the match.
If we were lacking confidence, it wasn’t shown on the pitch. Batley came out fighting, determined not to go down easily. Thirsk found themselves on the back foot, taken by surprise by Batley’s strength.
Good passing by Batley kept the ball moving up the pitch to the forwards in attack after attack. Thirsk were fast on the break but the first GOAL came for Batley with a great shot from Jodi.
Thirsks attacks were strong and quick, Batley had to keep up a good defence too keep them at bay. Helen made some terrific saves to keep the ball out the Batley net.
Batley continued to keep pushing the ball up the pitch and had chance after chance on goal. Some passing between the forwards and some simple balls could have capitalised on these.
Half time came and the score was 1-0 to Batley. We knew the second half would be tough, we would tire and Thirsk had lots of young fresh players to keep the pace up.
Second half was serious squeaky bum time! Thirsk had attack after attack and won several short corners. Batley managed to keep it out with some great defending and brilliant saves from Helen.
We were still attacking, keeping the ball moving through midfield and up to our attack who had plenty of space and time. The game really was end to end.
Batley really wanted this, the fire and passion on the pitch from the team was palpable. We wanted to keep Thirsk at bay and go for this win.
With 10 minutes to go Thirsk were attacking relentlessly, Batley just needed to keep it together for a few more minutes. The Batley defence managed to keep the ball clear and slow down the pace taking the ball out to the midfield.

The game ended 1-0 to Batley and goes down as a great team effort and a fantastic performance from both teams. Helen got Man of the Match and certainly deserved it for keeping a clean sheet.
Next week, Bradford away, I wont be playing, so there will be an opening for a match report. Please can someone take it on, or at least give me some details so I can put something together! Thanks!
