Kim attacking with Batley Ladies

We did it! First match of the new season and Batley had 11 players ready to go! This week our challenge was finding an umpire. After some frantic searching Jodi saved the day with an 11th hour umpire find! Well done to Jodi and thank you to our umpire for standing in at such short notice.

After two friendlies Batley were ready for some serious play. This time it counts and we want a winning start to the season. The game started strong, both teams were quite evenly matched but Batley had the edge in attack. Some fantastic passing work between the forwards won us several short corners, but it was in open play that Batley managed to take the lead with a GOAL from Jodi who deftly worked it around the keeper and into an open goal. Batley went in to half time 1-0 in the lead.

We went in to the second half planning more of the same. Tight marking when defending and great passing in attack. Some great hit outs from Linda kept the ball in the Halifax half and some fantastic man marking meant Halifax's key players didn't see much of the action.

A short corner provided Batley with their second GOAL of the match. A strong strike from Kim into the back of the net.

Fitness levels started to let us down at the end of the second half and a bit of confusion in defence meant Halifax got chance to attack. With 4 minutes remaining Halifax capitalised on this with (to be fair) a great goal crossed in from the left and deflected into the net.

Batley kept it together and the final whistle went with the score 2-1 to Batley. Man of the match went to Kim.

A win to start the season and hopefully a sign of good things to come.
